John Mayer, Continuum
Recebi um comentário da Roberta, falando sobre um cantor que eu já notei certa semelhança com Jack Johnson. Os dois fazem o estilo voz e violão. A diferença que mais chama a atenção é justamente a mídia. Enquanto o primeiro caiu nas graças de alguns críticos de música e a publicidade em cima do cara é grande, o segundo só será desenterrado se as pessoas que ouvem e gostam das músicas não se calarem (inglês).
Recentemente ele lançou o quarto álbum da carreira (Inside Wants Out de 1999, o primeiro disco do cantor não foi lançado no Brasil e por isso, não estranhe se te disserem que Continuum é o terceiro álbum dele). E foi justamente por causa da música Slow Dancing in a Burning Room que faz parte do disco Continuum, que ela chegou até este blog. Ela disse que ganhou de presente. Não é por nada mas esse último disco dele é excelente. Também, depois de três anos sem gravar, não poderiamos esperar outra coisa.
No ano passado, antes de entrar em estúdio para a gravação do disco, ele fez uma declaração dizendo que queria fazer algo diferente e que sabia dos riscos que isso acarretaria,
"When it comes out, I may never win a Grammy again, I may never sell a million records again, but the world will get where I'm coming from. I'm not afraid to lose it all."Essa declaração foi dada a revista Rolling Stone. E pelo que parece, talvez o John estivesse errado. Talvez ele ganhe um Grammy novamente. Foi indicado para o prêmio de melhor álbum do ano, melhor álbum pop e melhor interpretação pop masculina por Waiting On The World To Change. Ele já havia ganho este último prêmio por Daughters do disco de 2003 Heavier Things. Se vai ganhar novamente eu não sei, mas o cara merece.""Quando ele sair, eu talvez nunca vença um Grammy novamente, eu talvez nunca venda um milhão de discos novamente, mas o mundo saberá de onde eu vim. Eu não tenho medo de perder tudo"
Estavamos pensando em fazer uma seleção das músicas que poderiamos indicar de Continuum mas a tarefa é ingrata. Todas são ótimas. Mas vou te dar uma sequencia. Comece ouvindo Waiting On The World To Change, passe pela I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You), Belief e assim até a I'm Gonna Find Another You. Ahhh, não se esqueça de ouvir Vultures e nem Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. Seria um pecado deixar de ouvir Gravity e The Heart of Life. Tá bom, nem vou falar das outras.
